Isthmus Zen Community Organization


Housemaster


The Housemaster oversees the cleanliness, care and practice conditions within our practice space. The Housemaster role is assigned for specified periods of one to three months. Within the Isthmus Zen Community organization, the Housemaster:
  • Attends to cleanliness within the Dharma Room, dust mopping or sweeping before or after practice as needed.
  • Attends to kitchen after juice/tea and cookies, making sure that cups are washed and the kitchen is clean and orderly.
  • Sweeps the interview room and assists the HDT in arranging furniture and setting up when teaching interviews are scheduled.
  • Monitors altar supplies (candles, matches, incense) and notifies Head Dharma Teacher when these are low.
  • Monitors cleanliness of the altar cloths for both the Dharma Room and interview room, arranging for their laundering when necessary.
  • Monitors cleanliness of mats and cushions, sweeping them and arranging for laundering of the mat covers when necessary.
