  • Greets newcomers, introducing himself or herself, and attends to their social and physical comfort.
  • Briefly instructs guests in removing shoes before entering the Dharma room, the standing bow at the doorway, and where to sit.
  • Offers a Welcome to the Isthmus Zen Community handout, and free copies of Isthmus Zen Community/ Kwan Um School of Zen publications.
  • Leaves the Dharma Room during practice, if necessary, to greet and briefly orient late-arriving guests.
  • Arranges for or provides refreshments, especially on scheduled Introduction to Zen Meditation class nights.
  • Offers refreshments (tea/juice, cookies) following evening practice.
  • Reminds newcomers of the next scheduled Introduction to Zen Meditation (3rd Wednesday of each month).
  • At retreats, registers participants and records retreat fees.
